Window Film Cleaning & Maintenance
Film does not have the hard surface characteristics of glass; therefore, care should be exercised in the selection of materials for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaning materials, hard sponges or bristle brushes.
Do not wash until thirty (30) days after installation.
Cleaning should be done using water or normal household window cleaners or any non-abrasive window cleaning solution.
A soft cloth or clean synthetic sponge is recommended for washing with more water than normal followed by another clean soft cloth or a soft rubber squeegee for drying the window.
Use a little extra detergent and water for cleaning film when using a squeegee as it makes the process easier and damage less likely.
A soft towel or squeegee is recommended for removal of cleaning solution from the film. Paper towels, or newspapers are not recommended.
- Do not leave the film wet.
- Do not use the same cloth for wiping the sills or frames.
- Do not apply heavy pressure in any cleaning operation.
Use separate window cleaning materials when washing exterior and interior glass at the same time. Water or cloths used in exterior washing can contain particles which can scratch the film.
Additional caution is recommended when cleaning spliced areas. Clean in the direction of the splice.
Special Instructions for Exterior Films:
Clean twice a year with a standard high-pressure cleaner with a wide nozzle.
Before washing with a cloth, sponge or squeegee make sure the window is flushed with water first to remove any particles/grit from the surface of the film which could cause scratching.
NOTE: The hazy appearance after application is temporary. It is caused by the water used in the installation. Trapped moisture can also cause small water bubbles. This is normal and should be expected. Do not attempt to pierce bubbles during the dry-out period, as this will damage your film. They will eventually dissipate as the film dries and will bond smoothly to the window.
Film type selection and climate conditions will determine the dry-out period you experience. While warm weather and direct sun light exposure will shorten the dry-out time, cooler climates, shaded areas, non-sunny weather conditions and thicker films can lengthen the drying.
If slow drying occurs, do not become alarmed. The trapped moisture will dry-out completely. Dry-out times can vary from a few days to as much as 6 months.
